Washington, D.C. — A nationwide recall has been issued for select fruit puree pouches sold at Target, Kroger and Meijer after a packaging defect was found that could leave soft plastic strands inside some products, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The voluntary recall affects a limited number of Pumpkin Tree Peter Rabbit Organics Banana & Strawberry 4 oz. pouches distributed across the United States earlier this year.
While no injuries or illnesses have been reported, consumers are being advised to check their products and avoid consuming any recalled pouches.
Why the Fruit Pouches Were Recalled
According to the FDA, the recall was initiated by PT Organics Limited after its packaging supplier identified a production run of defective pouches.
An internal investigation found that some packages could contain a strand of soft, food-grade plastic attached to the inside of the pouch, creating a potential contamination issue.
FDA officials said company testing confirmed that the packaging defect affected only a small number of products, but the recall was issued as a precaution to protect consumers.
The agency also noted that no other Pumpkin Tree branded products, flavors or best-before dates are included in the recall.

- 01/19/2027
- 01/20/2027
- 03/17/2027
- 03/18/2027
- 05/14/2027
- 05/15/2027
According to the company, the recalled pouches were sold at Target, Kroger and Meijer stores nationwide between March 3, 2026, and July 13, 2026.
Consumers who purchased the product during that period are encouraged to carefully check the packaging before using it.

Anyone who has one of the recalled fruit puree pouches should not consume the product.
Instead, consumers are advised to throw the recalled pouch away or return it to the retailer where it was purchased for a refund or replacement, depending on the store’s policy.
