Tallahassee, Florida — A sudden and powerful storm turned deadly for a Florida couple who had shared more than three decades of marriage after a large tree crashed onto their vehicle, leaving family members and friends mourning the loss of two people remembered as inseparable.
Authorities identified the victims as Patti Haller, 63, and Steve Haller, 65, who were driving through a residential neighborhood in Tallahassee on the evening of July 10 when the tragic incident occurred.
According to the Tallahassee Police Department, the couple was traveling through the area around 5:17 p.m. when a large tree suddenly fell across the front of their vehicle during severe weather.
Severe Storm Turned Deadly Within Minutes
The fatal incident happened only minutes after the National Weather Service issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning, cautioning residents that wind gusts could reach 60 mph.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene and attempted life-saving measures, but both Patti and Steve were pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the incident remains under investigation.

The couple first met in 1989 and married on Nov. 10, 1990, in Miami. According to their obituary, they built a life centered on family, friendship and unwavering devotion to one another.

Family members said the Hallers were rarely apart and enjoyed spending their free time trying new breweries, bowling, traveling and sharing seafood meals together.
Those who knew them said their greatest happiness came from spending time with their beloved granddaughter, Amelia, whom they affectionately called “Millie Goose.”
“Millie meant absolutely everything to them. They took immense joy in completely spoiling her at every opportunity.”
Remembered for Their Passions and Kindness
Steve, who grew up on Long Island, New York, worked as an air traffic controller and loved cooking while cheering on the New York Jets.
Patti, a lifelong Floridian, worked for Assurant and enjoyed hobbies including thrifting and clogging.
Together, they created countless memories with their children and granddaughter, leaving behind a legacy of love that family members say will never be forgotten.
The Hallers are survived by their children, Kristen Silverman, Ryan Silverman and Kevin Haller, along with their cherished granddaughter.
Community Rallies Around Grieving Family
In the wake of the tragedy, loved ones have established a memorial fund to help the family manage the unexpected financial burden created by the sudden loss.
Instead of sending flowers, the family requested donations to support funeral expenses and other immediate needs.
As of July 20, the fundraiser had received more than $24,000, reflecting an outpouring of support from friends, neighbors and members of the community touched by the couple’s story.
