Jackson Heights, New York — Police are searching for a man accused of randomly attacking an 81-year-old woman outside a Salvation Army store in Queens after what authorities described as a verbal dispute that quickly turned violent.
According to the New York Police Department, the assault happened at approximately 7:45 a.m. on Thursday near 86-07 35th Avenue in Jackson Heights.
Investigators say the suspect fled the area immediately after the attack and remains at large.
Police Say Argument Escalated Into Violent Assault
Authorities said the elderly woman was standing outside the Salvation Army location when an unknown man approached her and began arguing.
The exchange reportedly escalated within moments. Police allege the suspect suddenly punched the woman in the face, striking her in the head before running away from the scene.
Investigators have not disclosed what sparked the confrontation, and it remains unclear whether the victim and the suspect knew each other before the incident.
Victim Taken to Hospital With Minor Injuries
Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and transported the woman to NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst for treatment.
Police said she suffered head pain and minor lacerations during the assault. Fortunately, authorities reported that the 81-year-old victim was in stable condition after receiving medical care.
No other injuries were reported.
NYPD Releases Suspect Photo
As part of the investigation, the NYPD released a surveillance image of the individual wanted for questioning. Police described the suspect as wearing:
- A white T-shirt
- A white baseball cap
Authorities have not released additional identifying details, and no arrests have been announced. Detectives are continuing to review available surveillance footage and gather evidence from the area.

The investigation remains active as officers work to identify and locate the suspect.
