Monroe, Connecticut — Six people were hospitalized Monday evening after a three-vehicle crash at a busy Monroe intersection, prompting an emergency response and temporary traffic detours while investigators worked at the scene.
According to police, the collision occurred at approximately 6:15 p.m. at the intersection of Wheeler Road and Route 110.
Emergency crews, including police, firefighters and Monroe EMS, responded quickly after reports of a serious multi-vehicle crash involving several occupants.
Police Say Driver Failed to Stop at Stop Sign
Preliminary findings from investigators indicate that the crash began when a vehicle traveling north on Wheeler Road allegedly failed to stop at the posted stop sign before entering the intersection.
Police said the vehicle was then struck by a car traveling along Route 110, causing a chain reaction that involved another vehicle already traveling on the roadway.
The impact resulted in a three-vehicle collision that left multiple people injured and several vehicles with significant damage.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash to determine whether additional factors may have contributed to the collision.
Six Occupants Involved Were Taken to the Hospital
Police said the crash involved three drivers and three passengers, bringing the total number of people involved to six. According to fire officials, all six individuals were transported to a nearby hospital by Monroe EMS for evaluation and treatment.
Officials have not released the identities of those involved or provided updates on the severity of their injuries. At this time, authorities have not indicated whether any of the injuries are considered life-threatening.
Emergency Crews Closed Area During Investigation
Following the crash, first responders secured the intersection while assisting those involved and documenting the scene.
Traffic along Wheeler Road and Route 110 was temporarily diverted as police conducted their investigation and crews worked to clear the damaged vehicles from the roadway.
Motorists traveling through the area experienced delays while emergency personnel remained on scene. Once investigators completed their documentation and the vehicles were removed, normal traffic flow was gradually restored.
Investigation Into Crash Continues
Police are continuing to examine the circumstances that led to the collision. Investigators have not announced whether any citations or charges will be issued as the investigation remains ongoing.
Officials are also reviewing evidence from the scene and speaking with those involved to establish the full sequence of events.
Drivers are reminded to use extra caution at intersections and obey all traffic signs, as failing to stop at controlled intersections can quickly lead to serious crashes involving multiple vehicles.
