Senior Mint Jerominski recently won the Silver Key award in the Regional competition for the Scholastic Art and Writing Contest. The artwork is displayed at the Milwaukee Art Museum as part of the 2025 Scholastic Art Award Exhibiton.
Although they’ve competed throughout high school, this is the first time they have won an award in the competition.
The contest involves students submitting artwork or pieces of writing for judging. There are different categories of art mediums and concepts such as individuality, the one Jerominski won.
The artwork Jerominski submitted is a multimedia piece based on a character from their own story which they’ve been writing for nearly five years; it is a character development piece. Jerominski worked on the piece during AP Art Studio Art and explored their concept through colors and detail work.
The Scholastic Art and Writing Contest hosts a ceremony where students can introduce themselves on stage. Although Jerominski was initially nervous, they enjoyed the ceremony because their parents were there to be supportive.
“Seeing my piece hanging in the Milwaukee Art Museum, it’s kinda surreal,” Jerominski said.
