New this year, Key Club offers students additional opportunities to offer community service.
Key Club, an international organization partnered with the Kiwanis Club, helps students develop leadership skills and build character, according to chapter adviser and English teacher Julie Sorensen.
A student-led organization, chapter leaders include juniors Nick Claditus, Sam Deering, Brennan Halloway, Charlie Makanzie, Ryan Lempke, Max Marshall and Brady Schmidt.
This month, Key Club partnered with Family Sharing by collecting personal care items for families in Ozaukee County. They also plan to volunteer at Riveredge Nature Center this semester.
Freshman Emily Meldman said she joined “for all of the volunteering opportunities, and it sounded fun.”
Currently the chapter has 52 members, but Sorensen said, “Everyone is always welcome.”
According to the organization’s website, Key Club International is celebrating 100 years of service in 2025. It is the oldest and largest service program for high school students in the world, with chapters in 40 countries.
Upcoming Key Club dates are currently undetermined but will be announced on the hallway monitors.
