Twenty-one HOSA students qualified to compete at the 2025 State Leadership Conference.
The conference will take place April 6-7 at Kalahari Resorts & Conventions in the Wisconsin Dells.
HOSA is an organization for students who wish to explore the medical field. At competition, students have the opportunity to compete in six events that test their knowledge of medical issues: emergency preparedness, health professions, health science, leadership, teamwork and recognition.
Additionally, as part of its service mission, the club volunteers monthly on Thursdays at the Lasata Senior Living Campus.
Established three years ago, the HOSA chapter has grown significantly, according to adviser and science teacher Sowmya Desai. She said the number of students qualifying for State this year has doubled compared to last year.
Desai agreed to be an adviser for the club last school year. She said that while somewhat spontaneous, “it was a good fit because I do have a natural interest in [healthcare].”
To raise money for State, the club held fundraisers throughout the year. They sold homemade granola in the fall, and they sold 50/50 raffle fundraisers at basketball games.
