The Bullhawks gymnastics team has competed in meets since December. The team recently secured a victory at a meet held Dec. 18 at Port Washington High School.
Senior Makenna Ptak shared her enthusiasm for the sport, though she revealed she is unlikely to continue gymnastics after high school due to a “stress fracture in [her] back.”
Reflecting on her favorite aspects of gymnastics, Ptak said that her “favorite skill is giants,” while her “favorite event is the beam.”
Senior Sierra Jarvis also expressed her love for gymnastics. “Floor is so much fun, and as much as they’re scary, I love cartwheel roundoffs,” she said.
According to Jarvis, many students develop an interest in the sport through youth programs, whereas Ptak said her passion for flips led her to teach herself before enrolling in formal classes.
Both gymnasts described their training schedules: they practice for “a consecutive nine hours Monday through Thursday at high school, and club practice Monday, Wednesday and Friday.”
Their “unofficial” team anthem is “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield.
