Members of the French Club learned to bake macarons last month on a field trip.
Batter & Mac, a bakery in Menomonee Falls, specializes in macarons and other sweet treats. The owner of the bakery led the class, giving tips and tricks for making vanilla-flavored macarons.
Sophomore Lilly Thompson said the field trip was “a 10/10. It was fun to learn how to make macarons with my friends.” Thompson also said that although making macarons was not too tedious, it was difficult to be precise, so they wouldn’t be flat or cracked.
Senior Hailey Roob said the bakery’s equipment helped the process run smoothly. “They had silicone mats with size guides and convection ovens, which people may not have at home,” Roob said.
World Language teacher and adviser Danielle Schoenwetter also enjoyed the experience and thought everyone’s macarons turned out well. She said the owner was “really nice and really friendly” and gave the students recipes to recreate at home.
The French Club’s next event will be Dec. 17, when they will hold their annual Buche de Noel baking competition.
