Kate Darling is the newest addition to the social studies department. As a part-time teacher, she teaches Global Studies, a freshman-year course. She said, “I did my student teaching with freshmen, so that’s really all I’m used to.”
After growing up in Wauwatosa, she earned her bachelor’s degree at UW-Madison and her master’s degree at UW-Milwaukee. As a student teacher, she taught Psychology at Milwaukee School of Languages, which is a bilingual and multicultural school.
Her passion for social studies comes from the subject’s versatility and relatability. “I like social studies because I think it’s easy to relate to the real world and students’ interests and hobbies,” Darling said. “I can teach World History and U.S. History, but then I can also teach Economics.”
She loves her 4-month-old puppy Miller, and during her free time, she enjoys going to Brewers and Bucks games, running, baking cakes and hanging out with friends.
Darling said she is already building positive relationships with her students and fellow teachers. “I was unfamiliar with a lot about Cedarburg before I worked here,” Darling said. “All the students here are really motivated to work hard and do well. I like the whole community.”
