World Language teacher Drew Schreurs said he’s “loving” his position here.
He said that the support provided by administration, parents and colleagues greatly helped him transition to being here. The students made the start to this year even better. Schreur said, “Their attitudes are really positive,” and he enjoys “seeing how hard they work to learn in class,” appreciating their determination and willingness to participate.
Schreurs taught for 10 years in the Port Washington-Saukville School District at both the middle and high schools. He says he likes both levels equally but for different reasons. Schreurs said he likes teaching middle school because of how energetic the students are, and he likes teaching high school because of the more challenging material.
He did not always want to become a teacher. In his freshman and sophomore years of college, Schreurs was majoring in International Business and planned on pursuing a career in that field. However, in his junior year, he spent time reflecting on his true gifts and realized he would be better suited as a teacher. This realization came after he began volunteering with the Boys & Girls Club and “fell in love with it,” he said. He then earned his license for teaching Spanish.
Outside of teaching, Schreurs makes sure to spend a lot of time with his family. Schreurs and his wife and two daughters can be found hanging out downtown Cedarburg. He loves seeing students out in the community and enjoys when they stop to chat. His daughters, ages five and eight, love going to the pool in the summer. He also loves playing pickleball and golf and frequently enjoys going on runs and walks.
