How-to Haiku

How-to+Haiku

Within the Bowl

Serene just like spring

Unbelievably quiet

A fish swims all day

White Pines

The pine trees are white

Snow lies upon their branches

It is winter now

Creating a haiku is fairly easy. Follow these three rules:

  1. A haiku must have three lines, and only three lines.
  2. The first line consists of five syllables, the second is seven syllables and the last line has five syllables. You can think of it as a syllable sandwich.
  3. A haiku should contain a reference to nature. It is supposed to be simple and clear. However, all good poems have deeper meanings, too.
