For the second year in a row, the Dance Team competed at the WACPC State Competition—this time, both their pom and jazz routines qualified for State competition. In addition, senior co-captain and senior Sydney Meyer qualified as an individial entry.
The season began with the Saber Dance Showdown and continued with other events, including the Ashwaubenon Dance Invitational and the Menomonee Falls Invite.
After placing at the WACPC Regional Competition, the team earned a spot at the WACPC State Competition, which was held at the La Crosse Center earlier this month.
Meyer described the moment the team found out they had qualified for State. “We all got up and screamed and cheered,” she said.
Co-captain and senior Macy Woyach shared her feelings of “shock and excitement.”
Meyer reflected on the challenges leading up to the competition: “Giving it that final push was the hardest part, but most of us were just so proud and happy to have qualified.”
One of Meyer’s most memorable moments occurred at Regionals when she was announced as an individual State qualifier. “Looking back to see my whole team cheering me on,” she said, “was unforgettable.”
Woyach also recalled a special moment from Regionals. She said, “One prominent memory for me was when I had to write a speech to read to the team before we were going on to perform.”
At the State competition, Woyach described the atmosphere as “stressful because you are in just one huge room with every single one of your other competitors, and within that room is where you also practice your routines.”
Meyer agreed, saying the competition was “an adrenaline rush, in the best way possible.” Looking back on the experience, Meyer said, “It feels like an honor to have qualified for State, but it also reminds us that hard work always pays off.”
Woyach offers advice to future dancers aiming for State: “If your mind is telling you that you will make it, you will.”
Meyer adds that the experience demonstrates how “everyone comes together at State to show their passion and love for dance.”
